Evaluation and Management of Cancer Pain

• Describe the elements of assessment of the patient with cancer-related pain.
• Recognize the optimal use of opioids and adjuvant analgesics in treating cancer-related pain.
• Identify common symptoms occuring in patients with cancer, including nausea, constipation, dyspnea, and agitation, and describe their appropriate management.

• Identify the role of neuroablative techniques in managing cancer-related pain.
• Explain the anatomy and technique of common neurolytic blocks including celiac plexus and superior hypogastric plexus blocks.
• Name the most common solutions used for chemical neurolysis and the risks and benefits associated with each.
• Report the most recent scientific evidence regarding the usefulness of neurolytic techniques for treating cancer-related pain.

• Describe the clinical presentation and management of common myofascial pain disorders.
• Explain existing diagnostic criteria and the controversy surrounding fibromyalgia as a discrete clinical entity.
• Identify the role of treatment modalities including trigger point injections and physical therapy in managing the patient with myofascial pain.
