ASRA Provides Feedback to ACGME on Pain Medicine Program RequirementsApr 18, 2017
The Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) recently requested input in preparation for a review of its Program Requirements for Graduate Medical Education in Pain Medicine. ASRA has responded with comments in support of the Association of Pain Program Directors (APPD), particularly in regard to reconsideration of anesthesia skills for non-anesthesiology-based pain fellows including making the requirement more focused on airway support using mask ventilation/LMA placement rather than solely on intubations with endotracheal tubes.
In addition, ASRA made several other recommendations in a letter sent to ACGME on April 12 (download a PDF of the letter here).
Through its relationships with key organizations such as ACGME and APPD, ASRA is working to ensure the identification and provision of high-quality standards for fellows and, ultimately, practicing physicians in pain medicine.
