New Infection Prevention Resources Available

Oct 2, 2018

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and The Joint Commission have published new infection control guides for orthopedic and pain management settings.

The free online resources are part of ADOPT (Adaption and Dissemination of Outpatient Infection Prevention) Guidance, a three-year initiative that began in 2015 to adapt, enhance and disseminate CDC guidance related to infection prevention and control (IPC) in outpatient settings. ASRA is one of 12 organizations that collaborated on the project.

“Guide to Infection Prevention in Orthopedic and Pain Management Office Settings” features key recommendations such as IPC program and infrastructure information. It also covers several topics including education and training, safe injection practices, medical device reprocessing, environmental cleaning and more. There is also a pocket guide version.

The resources include a PDF fillable checklist for other outpatient settings. The checklist is adapted from the CDC’s “Guide to Infection Prevention for Outpatient Settings: Minimum Expectations for Safe Care.”
