Inaugural Resident Section Committee Career Fair a SuccessNov 25, 2013
The American Society of Regional Anesthesia and Pain Medicine (ASRA) Resident Section Committee (RSC) held our inaugural career fair on November 23, 2013 at the Biltmore Hotel in Phoenix during the annual ASRA Pain Medicine Meeting. The career fair provided residents and fellows the opportunity to learn more about postgraduate career opportunities (academics or private practice in chronic pain, regional anesthesiology and acute pain medicine) and network with prospective employers in pain medicine.
The career fair program began with several presentations by leading hospitals and healthcare organizations, including Washington University Pain Management Center, University of Wisconsin Pain Management Center, Advanced Pain Physicians, Premier Anesthesiology, among others. Fellows and residents subsequently participated in an open forum to meet and discuss potential practice opportunities in chronic pain, regional anesthesia and acute pain with participating healthcare organizations and hospitals.
The overall feedback of the inaugural career fair has been very positive. Over one hundred residents and fellows participated in the event, and the program was touted to have been organized well with great potential for future growth. We believe that the inaugural event has been a pivotal step for residents and fellows to better understand the availability of a diverse range of practices during a changing climate.
Moreover, this event has provided an invaluable, unique, and long term benefit for multiple practices. Several faculty, fellows, and hospital organizations offered their gratitude for providing an effective means for meeting driven, motivated residents and fellows and remarked that the first organized national career event for the field was a major success.
