Harvard Macy Institute Professional Development Scholarships

Passion for teaching? Want to further develop and make a difference in your faculty role both at ASRA and within your organization?

In support of its educational mission and commitment to faculty development, ASRA is offering 5 scholarships annually to participate in multi-day professional development courses at the renowned Harvard Macy Institute (HMI) in Boston, Massachusetts. The HMI brings together health care professionals, educators, and leaders to discuss the critical challenges of the day and design innovative solutions that have a lasting impact on the way medicine is practiced and students are educated. Motivated ASRA members can win a scholarship to participate in one of the following HMI courses.

Courses Offered

  • Leading Innovations in Health Care & Education
  • Health Care Education 2.0: Transforming Your Teaching for the Digital Age
  • Program for Educators in Health Professions
  • A Systems Approach to Assessment in Health Professions Education

Scholarships Include

  • Course tuition (course fees vary up to $6,000)
    • ASRA will pay tuition directly to HMI on behalf of scholarship recipient
    • If recipient does not attend and complete the HMI course, they will be required to reimburse ASRA the full tuition amount
  • Upon completion of the course, recipients will provide a short report of what was learned and how this will practically benefit ASRA. Based on this, recipients will be considered to present what they learned and real-world applications at a future ASRA annual meeting

Scholarships Do Not Include

  • Travel to/from Boston, Massachusetts
  • Lodging
  • All other expenses

ASRA Scholarship Application Requirements

  • Submission deadline for an ASRA scholarship is February 27, 2019 (no extensions)
  • Applicants will be notified of the decision by March 27, 2019
  • Current 2019 ASRA membership required
  • Successful applications will illustrate how their chosen Harvard Macy Institute course will significantly contribute to the applicant’s current and future career path, while also supporting the ASRA mission
  • Completed online submission form with the following attachments:
    • Curriculum vitae (CV)
    • Personal letter of motivation/commitment (max. two pages)
    • Letter of recommendation from leadership endorsing your current/potential teaching skills (max. two pages)
  • All applications will be reviewed by the ASRA Faculty Development Committee and approved by the Board of Directors
