Connected Communities are online-only communities of current Society members who coalesce around a common topic. The only requirement needed to create a Connected Community is to have 25 members from 5 or more institutions support the topic. The community can discuss topics, share resources, and network with others who share the same interests.
A successful Connected Community is the first step in the process of becoming a Special Interest Group (SIG); however, Connected Communities do not have to become a SIG. Connected Communities with a minimum of 100 members, representation from 10 or more institutions/organizations, and 10 substantive content discussions on their community board may apply to become a SIG.
