HHS Provider Relief Fund: Reporting Requirements and Reporting Portal

Jul 13, 2021, 12:50 PM by ASRA

Congress established the Provider Relief Fund (PRF) to provide financial relief to the nation’s health care providers to help prevent, prepare for, and respond to the novel coronavirus. Hundreds of thousands of providers received funding under the PRF, subject to specified terms and conditions, which included requirements to report on the use of funds in certain cases.

To facilitate reporting, the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) within the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) opened the PRF Reporting Portal on July 1, 2021. This followed the release of revised reporting requirements on June 11, 2021, which further updated and clarified reporting requirements and timelines.

Under the most recent reporting requirements, PRF recipients are required to report based on the period in which they received funding (the “Payment Received Period”) if they received one or more payments exceeding, in the aggregate, $10,000 for that period. The reporting schedule is shown below.

While all PRF recipients are subject to audit, providers and suppliers who, in total, spend $750,000 or more in federal funds (including PRF payments and other federal financial assistance) during a fiscal year are subject to specified audit requirements.

The Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) has posted several resources intended to support providers in the reporting and auditing process on the HHS Reporting and Auditing webpage, including tutorials, user guides, and Frequently Asked Questions on auditing and reporting requirements.

Additionally, HHS will be hosting Reporting Technical Assistance Sessions to provide technical assistance on reporting requirements:

HHS has also established a Provider Support Line at (866) 569-3522, which is available from 8 AM to 10 PM CT, Monday through Friday.

ASRA members who have received $10,000 or more in PRF payments for a given “Payment Received Period” should familiarize themselves with the reporting and audit requirements and complete any applicable requirements in a timely manner.
