October 2022: Keith Newton
The Member Spotlight for October shines on Resident Section Chair Keith Newton, MD, who is in fellowship at the University of California, Irvine.
As chair of the Resident Section Committee, Dr. Newton has gone “above and beyond,” according to nominator Christian Roehmer, who wrote that Dr. Newton’s leadership “has been instrumental for [the committee's] growth over the past year.”
“Dr. Newton has made countless contributions to the committee, including a fellowship workshop at the recent annual conference in San Francisco, which was an invaluable experience for trainees. Additionally, he authored a problem-based learning discussion (PBLD) on spinal epidural hematoma to promote continued education amongst residents.”
Dr. Newton has a varied background with degrees in statistical science, biochemistry, and physiology, in addition to his MD from the University of Cincinnati. He completed his residency at the University of Central Florida where he also served as chief resident of anesthesiology. His experience ranges from a crisis and suicide hotline specialist, substitute teacher, and computer tech.
Dr. Newton has coauthored five scholarly papers and has contributed articles for the ASRA Pain Medicine News, where he serves as committee member. He also has presented many poster and oral presentations for meetings of the North American Neuromodulation Society, ASRA Pain Medicine, and others.
“I give him my highest recommendation for a member spotlight of the week,” writes Dr. Roehmer, who is a fellow member of the committee and a PGY-4 in physical medicine and rehabilitation at Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville, TN.
