August 2022: Robert L. McClain

ASRA Pain Medicine’s Member Spotlight for August focuses on Dr. Robert L. McClain, an assistant professor of anesthesiology at the Mayo Clinic in Jacksonville, FL. Steve Porter, MD, nominated Dr. McClain for recognition become because of his work ethic and commitment to the field.

“Dr. McClain works tirelessly to help his patients safely get through surgery with as little pain as possible,” Porter wrote. “He is the first member of his family to attend college, let alone professional school. He is from rural Georgia. He is at work early, stays late, and never complains. He also is an expert in liver and kidney transplant anesthesia and is one of the best anesthesiologists at vascular access in the department. He is always reading about the latest in regional anesthesia and always completes his evaluations in time.”

Dr. McClain received his MD from Mercer University in Macon, GA, and then went to the Mayo Clinical School of Graduate Medical Education in Jacksonville for his residency and fellowship. He has lectured and published on a number of regional anesthesia topics including post-dural puncture headache, pharmacology, and multimodal analgesia among others. He is board-certified in anesthesiology and basic and advanced cardiovascular life support.

In his nomination, Dr. Porter wrote, “The division of regional anesthesiology loves calling him a member of the team, and we look forward to great things. He is impressive to watch in action and has a long career ahead of him.”
