Support of Spinal Cord Stimulation Coverage for Painful Diabetic Neuropathy Refractory to Conventional Management
The American Society of Regional Anesthesia and Pain Medicine (ASRA Pain Medicine) is urging providers to cover spinal cord stimulation (SCS) for management of chronic intractable pain.
In a recent letter to the medical affairs departments of First Coast Service Options, Inc. and Novitas Solutions, Inc., ASRA Pain Medicine argued that implanted spinal cord stimulators can provide non-addictive/non-opioid pain treatment to patients with painful diabetic peripheral neuropathy. Because it is not addictive, it is a valuable resource for patients seeking long-term relief of this painful condition without the side effects of drowsiness and dizziness.
