The Andrews Institute Regional Anesthesiology and Acute Pain Medicine Fellowship is a unique one year training opportunity with a private practice outpatient anesthesiology group at the Andrews Institute for Orthopaedics & Sports Medicine, home of world famous orthopedic surgeon Dr. James Andrews. You will learn under the personalized tutelage of Andrews Institute’s medical director, Dr. Greg Hickman and fellowship director Dr. Scott Thomas. There are no residents or other fellows to compete with for procedures and the result is the opportunity to perform more ultrasound-guided nerve blocks and catheters than in any other fellowship in North America. With additional optional clinical research opportunities available via the Andrews Research & Education Foundation, the result is an excellent hybrid between academic and private practice education. Our fellows have the opportunity to make a major immediate impact on whatever private or academic anesthesiology group they decide to join after graduation. Our average fellow performs over 3000 ultrasound-guided nerve blocks for a variety of upper & lower extremity and breast and abdominal surgeries, with over 1300 continuous catheters. When you graduate you will be among the country’s most sought after regional fellowship trained anesthesiologists in an increasingly competitive job market.

Gulf Breeze is also a fabulous place to live, with sugar-white beaches, outdoor activities, a small town and a friendly atmosphere. Pensacola Beach is just a short five minutes away and was recently ranked by Trip Advisor as one of the top ten beaches in the United States. There are no call commitments and no weekends so you will have plenty of opportunity to enjoy all the beauty that the Florida gulf coast has to offer.

The department of anesthesiology at the University of Florida College of Medicine – Jacksonville offers a one-year regional anesthesiology and acute pain management fellowship program, which focuses on comprehensive treatment of perioperative pain in patients at UF Health Jacksonville. Fellows also treat patients at the attached outpatient surgery center and at the all-new UF Health North facility.

Fellows rotate between these three locations, working individually and with residents to coordinate care and complete blocks. Fellows master both single-shot and catheter-based techniques used for upper- and lower-extremity procedures. As a Level 1 trauma center, many of our techniques are employed for fracture surgery. By the end of their training, fellows will be familiar with common orthopaedic procedures used to treat this unique patient population. A host of other techniques are employed during the one-year fellowship.
