Description

Accredited by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) for 4 fellow learners, our 12-month program provides an experience in a multidisciplinary pain management center with emphasis on interventional pain management approaches. The program offers educational experiences in interventional pain, chronic pain (clinic and inpatient), anesthesiology (perioperative and acute pain), physical medicine and rehabilitation, neurology, psychiatry/psychology, as well as hospice and palliative medicine. The program is comprised of eight physician faculty members with specialties in anesthesiology, pain medicine, family medicine, psychiatry, physical medicine and rehabilitation, and neurology, as well as one clinical psychologist. The pain medicine fellowship at the University of Kentucky is provided through the department of anesthesiology. Physicians begin fellowship training after successful completion of an ACGME-accredited residency in anesthesiology, neurology, physical medicine and rehabilitation, or psychiatry.

University of Louisville Pain Fellowship

Program Overview

  • Accepts two fellows per year
  • 5000 patients annually and perform nearly 200 procedures per month and 300 surgeries per year
  • It is a 12-month fellowship program with extensive training and rotation through the following disciplines and services:
  • Chronic Pain Management (core rotation, University Hospital and VA Robley Rex Medical Center)
  • Neurology Rotation (Headaches and Facial Pain)
  • Cancer pain and Palliative Medicine
  • Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation (Spinal Cord Injury and Musculoskeletal Pain)
  • Psychiatry and Addiction Medicine
  • Acute Pain and Regional Anesthesia
  • Neuroradiology
  • Anesthesiology for Non-Anesthesiologist
  • Research Rotation (Optional)
  • Private Practice Rotation (Elective)
