June’s Member Spotlight shines on Mary J. Hargett, director of education and clinical affairs in the department of anesthesiology, critical care, and pain management at the Hospital for Special Surgery in New York, New York. She also serves as the administrative director of the Regional Anesthesiology and Acute Pain Medicine Fellowship Directors’ Group (since 2001) and her support is “surpassed by none,” states nominator Lynn Kohan, MD.

In 2018, Mrs. Hargett received the first Distinguished Service Special Recognition Award from ASRA Pain Medicine for her endless energy, enthusiasm, and organizational efforts in support of resident and fellow events and activities. She is currently serving as a member of the ASRA Pain Medicine Excellence in Education and Membership Committees.  “She has made significant contributions to the ASRA Pain Medicine Membership Committee and is truly valued as a member of this committee,” Dr. Kohan wrote.

Mrs. Hargett is a co-author on the Regional Anesthesiology Fellowship guidelines, as well as numerous peer-reviewed articles. She is currently involved with several educational and research initiatives for regional anesthesiology and acute pain medicine education and training. She is a member of various professional organizations including the European Society of Regional Anesthesia and Pain Medicine, American Society of Anesthesiologists, and Society of Anesthesia and Sleep Medicine, among others.

Nominations will be accepted and highlighted throughout the year. Self-nominations are permitted. Specific attention will be given to those members who haven't been highlighted previously in ASRA Pain Medicine activities.
