University of Cincinnati Medical Center
The University of Cincinnati’s Department of Anesthesiology proudly offers a one-year, ACGME-accredited fellowship in regional anesthesia and acute pain medicine. Our program is designed to ensure optimal patient care while providing trainees the opportunity to develop their technical skills and enhance their expertise as a perioperative pain physician.
The fellow will become proficient in providing comprehensive perioperative pain care for all patients undergoing surgery at UC Health. The regional anesthesia and acute pain fellow will be an integral part of the acute inpatient pain services at University of Cincinnati Medical Center and West Chester Hospital. The fellow will be expected to perform a high volume and variety of regional anesthetic techniques. Their training will include all aspects of perioperative pain control, including multimodal, non-opioid options available to patients throughout their perioperative course. Being at a major academic center, the fellow will have the opportunity to participate in scholarly activities, including research studies, quality improvement projects, academic presentations, and trainee education.
Fellows will rotate at a variety of sites that provide a robust and diverse experience. The fellow will work at high volume surgery centers, becoming proficient at perioperative regional procedures and ambulatory anesthesia. They will spend time on the inpatient pain service at the University of Cincinnati Medical Center, a level 1 trauma center, where they will become experts in perioperative pain control for all surgeries and patient populations. Their time at West Chester Hospital will give them a chance to provide excellent perioperative pain care in a suburban, community hospital setting. A rotation at Cincinnati Children’s Medical Center, a perennially top rated pediatric hospital, will give each fellow valuable insight and training in pediatric regional anesthesia and acute pain medicine. The fellow will rotate with the UC Health pain management clinic to learn chronic pain medicine and its significant overlap with acute pain medicine.
Upon graduation, the fellow will be an expert in the field of regional anesthesia and acute pain medicine. Trainees will be equipped to use their knowledge and skills to provide optimal perioperative pain care for all their patients in both private practice and academic settings.
